During the seventies, Piero Figus, who had just turned 18, decided to start a new business with coaches. He bought his first Volkswagen coach to start a school bus service for children. This was the beginning of Linea Azzurra’s story, which after almost 50 years, is still “moving people” with competence and passion.
Since its beginning, the company’s vocation towards tourism emerged. In the ‘80s, the fleet has been implemented with GT (Gran Turismo) coaches, which were highly requested and appreciated by agencies, national and international tour operators, used also for school trips, religious tourism and pilgrimages.
During this decade, Linea Azzurra has been establishing itself as a landmark in Piedmont, starting to serve the main companies and organizations in the area, operating tourist services as well as occasional services for local institutions, such as replacement services for the Italian State Railways, cruise services, school buses.
At the time, Fabio, son of the founder and graduated in business economics, joined the company. Linea Azzurra began to establish itself on an international level, creating connections with the most important tour and coach operators worldwide. In this period, the company started operating long distance coach services throughout Europe, improving its fleet, staff skills and technologies.
In 2011, the company opens its operational headquarters in Milan, to broaden its offer in this strategic area. In the same period, Linea Azzurra became the Italian member of Global Passenger Network, a worldwide organization that operates in more than 40 Countries all over the world and in continuous expansion. The network brings together the sector’s excellence by identifying only one company in each member state, which is able to operate throughout national and international territory, meeting quality, safety and environmental standards.
